84: The Splitting Open (سُورَةُ الانشِقَاقِ)

Revealed in Makkah. Number of ayahs: 25

1	When the sky is rent asunder, بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم إذا السماء انشقت Izas samaaa’un shaqqat
2	And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- وأذنت لربها وحقت Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
3	And when the earth is flattened out, وإذا الأرض مدت Wa izal ardu muddat
4	And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, وألقت ما فيها وتخلت Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat
5	And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). وأذنت لربها وحقت Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
6	O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. يا أيها الإنسان إنك كادح إلى ربك كدحا فملاقيه Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh
7	Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, فأما من أوتي كتابه بيمينه Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih
8	Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, فسوف يحاسب حسابا يسيرا Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa
9	And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! وينقلب إلى أهله مسرورا Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa
10	But he who is given his Record behind his back,- وأما من أوتي كتابه وراء ظهره Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa’a zahrih
11	Soon will he cry for perdition, فسوف يدعو ثبورا Fasawfa yad’oo subooraa
12	And he will enter a Blazing Fire. ويصلى سعيرا Wa yaslaa sa’eeraa
13	Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! إنه كان في أهله مسرورا Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa
14	Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! إنه ظن أن لن يحور Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor
15	Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! بلى إن ربه كان به بصيرا Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa
16	So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; فلا أقسم بالشفق Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq
17	The Night and its Homing; والليل وما وسق Wallaili wa maa wasaq
18	And the Moon in her fullness: والقمر إذا اتسق Walqamari izat tasaq
19	Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. لتركبن طبقا عن طبق Latarkabunna tabaqan ‘an tabaq
20	What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- فما لهم لا يؤمنون Famaa lahum laa yu’minoon
21	And when the Qur’an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, وإذا قرئ عليهم القرآن لا يسجدون ۩ Wa izaa quri’a ‘alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon
22	But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). بل الذين كفروا يكذبون Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon
23	But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) والله أعلم بما يوعون Wallaahu a’lamu bimaa yoo’oon
24	So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, فبشرهم بعذاب أليم Fabashshirhum bi’azaabin aleem
25	Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات لهم أجر غير ممنون Illal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
