88: The Overwhelming (سُورَةُ الغَاشِيَةِ)

1	Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم هل أتاك حديث الغاشية Hal ataaka hadeesul ghaashiyah
2	Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, وجوه يومئذ خاشعة Wujoohuny yawma ‘izin khaashi’ah
3	Labouring (hard), weary,- عاملة ناصبة ‘Aamilatun naasibah
4	The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- تصلى نارا حامية Taslaa naaran haamiyah
5	The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, تسقى من عين آنية Tusqaa min ‘aynin aaniyah
6	No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari’ ليس لهم طعام إلا من ضريع Laisa lahum ta’aamun illaa min daree’
7	Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. لا يسمن ولا يغني من جوع Laa yusminu wa laa yughnee min joo’
8	(Other) faces that Day will be joyful, وجوه يومئذ ناعمة Wujoohuny yawma ‘izin naa’imah
9	Pleased with their striving,- لسعيها راضية Lisa’yihaa raadiyah
10	In a Garden on high, في جنة عالية Fee jannatin ‘aaliyah
11	Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: لا تسمع فيها لاغية Laa tasma’u feehaa laaghiyah
12	Therein will be a bubbling spring: فيها عين جارية Feehaa ‘aynun jaariyah
13	Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, فيها سرر مرفوعة Feehaa sururum marfoo’ah
14	Goblets placed (ready), وأكواب موضوعة Wa akwaabum mawdoo ‘ah
15	And cushions set in rows, ونمارق مصفوفة Wa namaariqu masfoofah
16	And rich carpets (all) spread out. وزرابي مبثوثة Wa zaraabiyyu mabsoosah
17	Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- أفلا ينظرون إلى الإبل كيف خلقت Afalaa yanzuroona ilalibili kaifa khuliqat
18	And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- وإلى السماء كيف رفعت Wa ilas samaaa’i kaifa rufi’at
19	And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- وإلى الجبال كيف نصبت Wa ilal jibaali kaifa nusibat
20	And at the Earth, how it is spread out? وإلى الأرض كيف سطحت Wa ilal ardi kaifa sutihat
21	Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. فذكر إنما أنت مذكر Fazakkir innama anta Muzakkir
22	Thou art not one to manage (men’s) affairs. لست عليهم بمصيطر Lasta ‘alaihim bimusaitir
23	But if any turn away and reject Allah,- إلا من تولى وكفر Illaa man tawallaa wa kafar
24	Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, فيعذبه الله العذاب الأكبر Fa yu’azzibuhul laahul ‘azaabal akbar
25	For to Us will be their return; إن إلينا إيابهم Innaa ilainaaa iyaabahum
26	Then it will be for Us to call them to account. ثم إن علينا حسابهم Summa inna ‘alainaa hisaabahum
