96: The Clot (سُورَةُ العَلَقِ)

1	Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq
2	Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: خلق الإنسان من علق Khalaqal insaana min ‘alaq
3	Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- اقرأ وربك الأكرم Iqra wa rab bukal akram
4	He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- الذي علم بالقلم Al lazee ‘allama bil qalam
5	Taught man that which he knew not. علم الإنسان ما لم يعلم ‘Al lamal insaana ma lam y’alam
6	Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, كلا إن الإنسان ليطغى Kallaa innal insaana layatghaa
7	In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. أن رآه استغنى Ar-ra aahus taghnaa
8	Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). إن إلى ربك الرجعى Innna ilaa rabbikar ruj’aa
9	Seest thou one who forbids- أرأيت الذي ينهى Ara-aital lazee yanhaa
10	A votary when he (turns) to pray? عبدا إذا صلى ‘Abdan iza sallaa
11	Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- أرأيت إن كان على الهدى Ara-aita in kana ‘alal hudaa
12	Or enjoins Righteousness? أو أمر بالتقوى Au amara bit taqwaa
13	Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? أرأيت إن كذب وتولى Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla
14	Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? ألم يعلم بأن الله يرى Alam y’alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa
15	Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- كلا لئن لم ينته لنسفعا بالناصية Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa’am bin nasiyah
16	A lying, sinful forelock! ناصية كاذبة خاطئة Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiyah
17	Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): فليدع ناديه Fal yad’u naadiyah
18	We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! سندع الزبانية Sanad ‘uz zabaaniyah
19	Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! كلا لا تطعه واسجد واقترب ۩ Kalla; la tuti’hu wasjud waqtarib
