80: He frowned (سُورَةُ عَبَسَ)

![]() (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم عبس وتولى
‘Abasa wa tawallaa.
|
2 |
![]() Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).
أن جاءه الأعمى
An jaa-ahul ‘a-maa
|
3 |
![]() But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-
وما يدريك لعله يزكى
Wa maa yudreeka la’allahu yaz zakkaa.
|
4 |
![]() Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
أو يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى
Au yaz zak karu fatanfa ‘ahuz zikraa.
|

![]() As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,
أما من استغنى
Amma manis taghnaa
|
6 |
![]() To him dost thou attend;
فأنت له تصدى
Fa-anta lahu tasaddaa
|
7 |
![]() Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).
وما عليك ألا يزكى
Wa ma ‘alaika allaa yaz zakka.
|
8 |
![]() But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,
وأما من جاءك يسعى
Wa amma man jaa-aka yas’a
|
9 |
![]() And with fear (in his heart),
وهو يخشى
Wahuwa yakhshaa,
|
10 |
![]() Of him wast thou unmindful.
فأنت عنه تلهى
Fa-anta ‘anhu talah haa.
|
11 |
![]() By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:
كلا إنها تذكرة
Kalla innaha tazkirah
|
12 |
![]() Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.
فمن شاء ذكره
Faman shaa a zakarah
|
13 |
![]() (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,
في صحف مكرمة
Fi suhufim mukar rama,
|
14 |
![]() Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,
مرفوعة مطهرة
Marfoo’atim mutah hara,
|
15 |
![]() (Written) by the hands of scribes-
بأيدي سفرة
Bi’aidee safara
|
16 |
![]() Honourable and Pious and Just.
كرام بررة
Kiraamim bararah.
|
17 |
![]() Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah;
قتل الإنسان ما أكفره
Qutilal-insanu maa akfarah.
|
18 |
![]() From what stuff hath He created him?
من أي شيء خلقه
Min aiyyi shai-in Khalaq
|
19 |
![]() From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;
من نطفة خلقه فقدره
Min nutfah; khalaqahu faqad-darah.
|
20 |
![]() Then doth He make His path smooth for him;
ثم السبيل يسره
Thummas sabeela yas-sarah
|
21 |
![]() Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;
ثم أماته فأقبره
Thumma amatahu fa-aqbarah
|
22 |
![]() Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).
ثم إذا شاء أنشره
Thumma iza shaa-a ansharah
|
23 |
![]() By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
كلا لما يقض ما أمره
Kalla lamma yaqdi maa amarah.
|
24 |
![]() Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):
فلينظر الإنسان إلى طعامه
Falyanzuril insanu ilaa ta-amih
|
25 |
![]() For that We pour forth water in abundance,
أنا صببنا الماء صبا
Anna sabab nalmaa-a sabba.
|
26 |
![]() And We split the earth in fragments,
ثم شققنا الأرض شقا
Thumma sha qaqnal-arda shaqqa.
|
27 |
![]() And produce therein corn,
فأنبتنا فيها حبا
Fa ambatna feeha habba
|
28 |
![]() And Grapes and nutritious plants,
وعنبا وقضبا
Wa ‘inabaw-wa qadba
|
29 |
![]() And Olives and Dates,
وزيتونا ونخلا
Wa zaitoonaw wanakh la’
|
30 |
![]() And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees,
وحدائق غلبا
Wa hadaa-iqa ghulba
|
31 |
![]() And fruits and fodder,-
وفاكهة وأبا
Wa faki hataw-wa abba.
|
32 |
![]() For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
متاعا لكم ولأنعامكم
Mata’al-lakum wa li-an’amikum.
|
33 |
![]() At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-
فإذا جاءت الصاخة
Faiza jaa-atis saakhah.
|
34 |
![]() That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,
يوم يفر المرء من أخيه
Yauma yafir-rul mar-u min akheeh
|
35 |
![]() And from his mother and his father,
وأمه وأبيه
Wa ummihee wa abeeh
|
36 |
![]() And from his wife and his children.
وصاحبته وبنيه
Wa sahi batihee wa baneeh.
|
37 |
![]() Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.
لكل امرئ منهم يومئذ شأن يغنيه
Likul limri-im-minuhm yaumaa-izin shaa nuy-yughneeh
|
38 |
![]() Some faces that Day will be beaming,
وجوه يومئذ مسفرة
Wujoo huny-yauma-izim-musfira;
|
39 |
![]() Laughing, rejoicing.
ضاحكة مستبشرة
Dahi katum mustab shirah
|
40 |
![]() And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,
ووجوه يومئذ عليها غبرة
Wa wujoohuy yauma-izin ‘alaiha ghabar a
|
41 |
![]() Blackness will cover them:
ترهقها قترة
Tarhaquha qatarah.
|
42 |
![]() Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.
أولئك هم الكفرة الفجرة
Ulaa-ika humul-kafa ratul-fajarah.
